2006
- 'Courage and conviction' St
Kilda - 'the most written-about suburb in Australia' - will be celebrated
even more with the return of the St Kilda Writers' Festival (SKWF)
in 2006.
Following on from the highly-acclaimed 2005 festival,
2006 will see a strong program drawing on local, state and national
writing talents. With workshops, panel discussions, showcases and
the innovative Writers' Market, the lineup reflects the diversity
and colourful nature of the area and its people.
The theme for the SKWF 2006 is Courage and
conviction. 'The act of creating is an act of courage,'
say directors Alison Bicknell and Bo Svoronos. 'We want to explore
this idea and what it means to writers and their audiences, whether
at the level of literary high art or at the other end of the spectrum
in commercial journalism.' It is shaping up to be a controversial,
challenging, but fun community writers' festival. Don't miss it!
(Above right: our festival patron, Academy Award-winning
Adam Elliot.)
'There has been a focus on my awards but my big gripe is that the
strength of a good film is its writing. After winning the Oscar
For Harvey Krumpet I made a point of emphasising the film's
writing strength.'
Adam Elliot, Festival Patron
